How do I convert a Genially presentation to PDF?

Open the creation in Genially, click Share and copy the link — it looks like view.genially.com/{id}. Paste it into pitch2pdf and click "Convert to PDF." pitch2pdf opens each page of the creation in turn, waits for its animations to finish, and adds it to the PDF as one page. Most creations are ready within a few minutes. Very long creations whose pages keep animating can reach the conversion time limit; the PDF then holds the pages saved up to that point. No Genially account, browser extension or software installation is needed.

Which Genially links work?

The view link from Genially's Share dialog (view.genially.com/{id}, with or without the title after the id) is the one to use, and older genial.ly links to the same creation work too. An editor link (app.genially.com/editor/{id}) is converted from the published view of the same creation, so it works once the creation is published. Other app.genially.com pages, such as your dashboard or a team space, only open for signed-in users, and template gallery pages are previews rather than creations, so neither can be converted.

Does my Genially creation need to be public?

It needs to be published and visible to anyone with the link. Creations that are password-protected or limited to signed-in users cannot be converted, and pitch2pdf reports that the creation is private. In Genially, open Share, make the creation visible to anyone with the link and without a password, then paste its view link again. Deleted creations are reported as not found.

What happens to animations and interactive elements?

Entrance animations are allowed to finish before each page is saved, so every page appears complete. Pop-up windows that open only when you click a button inside the creation are not included, and neither are hidden pages, because they are not part of the creation's page sequence. Content that appears only after a click on a page is not shown either. Buttons and menus the author placed on the page itself are kept, because they are part of its design.

Do vertical or portrait Genially formats work?

Yes. pitch2pdf follows the creation's page shape: a 16:9 presentation becomes landscape pages, while vertical social formats, dossiers and other portrait creations become portrait pages instead of being shrunk onto a landscape page with wide empty margins.

Question 6

Will the Genially viewer controls appear in the PDF?

Accepted Answer

No. The navigation arrows, options button and sign-up bar that the Genially viewer draws around a creation are left out, and each page is cropped to the creation itself, so the PDF contains only your content.
